Marisa’s First Blog!
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011Dear all Fancy Face readers,
Many of you already know me as the Face of the Fancy Face Cosmetics Cheer Collection! You however may not know that I am now a Rutgers University all-girl Cheerleader! Being from South Jersey Storm’s lg limited co-ed team, a few weeks ago I was preparing for worlds, but also for tryouts. Between the long hours of practicing the week before worlds, I had tryouts in New Brunswick, NJ for two days. After finding out I had made the team (best feeling EVER) I had to rush to south jersey for a 6 hour worlds practice! And yes my Fancy Face makeup stayed on! That was probably the most exhausting and rewarding 2 days of my life.
Next big event was Worlds where my team had to meet at 6 am hair curled, uniform and makeup ready to compete at 8 am. Good thing we looked Fancy in our makeup! Saturday in the HP Fieldhouse was very stressful but when my team made it to finals it was worth it. And let me tell you, there was NEVER a dull moment, while my team and I were “Goofing off” in our Worlds Room. Sunday, we woke up at 4 am to get ready after getting almost no sleep and went over to the Fieldhouse where we had to again compete. It was bittersweet to think that this was the last time I would compete with my team. Being a senior and moving on to college, I was very emotional when we were announced as 10th in the World! Of course I had to visit my Fancy Face girls for a BIG congratulations! Sunday night after the competition was, of course, just as eventful. It is going to be hard leaving all-star cheerleading but I’m looking forward to my challenges ahead as a college cheerleader! I will never forget Worlds 2011.
A few days ago, I had my first cheer practice for Rutgers University! After running around the RAC center, a few of us met to discuss a cheerleading smart phone app (you’ll have to wait and see!). Then we reviewed try out sequences and learned a new fight song. College cheerleading is a whole new ball game! After learning the UCA methods of stunting, things got much easier. Basing with a girl I used to cheer with, we began doing some full-ups and tumbled for a little bit. Getting used to tumbling on a hard floor has yet to get easier! Of course you can’t have a practice without getting yelled at for being too loud, so we had the pleasure of running bleachers also. We were also fitted for our new uniforms that you will all see the Rutgers University Cheerleaders sporting on ESPN during games. I look forward to my first game Sept 1st and also UCA Nationals in January. So far so good, you guys will have to stick around to hear more
